- What are the ITRA Endurance Points ?ITRA Endurance Points (from 0 to 6) are a way to estimate the endurance difficulty of a race. They are based on a kilometer-effort system : 1 km of distance = 1 effort point 100m+ of vertical ascent = 1 effort pointEx: 45km / 1500m+ = 60…
- One of my races, for which I achieved a very good result, does not appear in the performance indexThe individual scores for the runners in this race may not yet have been computed (see tab "Statistics" on your profile page - if this still shows "not yet available", the calculation has not yet been done).
- I cannot find my score for the race that I ranIf your score is shown as "not yet available", it means that the score has not yet been calculated.
- My request for the linkage of a profile/result has been refused. why?The result may already be linked to another ITRA account (one you set up earlier?). If this is the case, contact us by email at contact@itra.run
- What is the mountain level ?The Mountain Level expresses the "Mountain difficulty" of a race, on scale from 0 to 12.If a race has a Mountain Level close to 12, it means that the ratio between vertical gain and overall distance is high. (i.e : 40km /4000m+ vertical…
- What is the finisher level? The Finisher level gives an estimation of the minimum Performance Index required to be able to finish a race within the race's maximum allowed time. The calculation is automatic and is based on our Performance Index. Please note that the…

- What are the ITRA Endurance points ?ITRA Endurance Points (from 0 to 6) are a way to estimate the endurance difficulty of a race. (However, they do not consider the technicality of the terrain)
- How ITRA Endurance Points are calculated ?Please use our Itra points calculator (.xlsx) to simulate your race data and find out how many ITRA Endurance Points your race will award.
- How ITRA Endurance Points are calculated for stage race / backyard ultra?Stage races / backyard ultra races are assessed using a slightly different method, taking into account the number of stages, the distance and the vertical gain of the longest stage.
- How to make my race(s) award ITRA Endurance Points ?To award ITRA Endurance Points, you must ask for a "Race evaluation". This service is reserved to ITRA member with an up to date membership.
- What should I do if my race course changes? If there are ANY CHANGES in the actual racecourse from the evaluated course, the organizer must update their GPX file and ask for a new race evaluation.

Performance Index
- What is the ITRA performance index? The ITRA Performance Index (PI) is a tool that estimates a runner's level of performance.
- How is the performance index calculated and over what period? The ITRA Performance Index is calculated by obtaining the weighted mean of up to the 5 best scores achieved by a runner over the previous 36 months (for the general index or the index by category).
- My ITRA performance index is lower than the last time I checked, why?The ITRA Performance Index is calculated by obtaining the weighted mean of up to the 5 best scores achieved by a runner over the previous 36 months (for the general index or the index by category).
- Do new and older results carry the same weighting in calculating the PI?As a result gets older, the value of this score is reduced when calculating the Performance Index.
- I don’t have 5 results, but I still have a performance index. how is this calculated? To allow the performance index to be open to as many people as possible, as soon as a runner has completed one race, they appear in the performance index.
- Is the reduction of score over time the same between the general PI and distance category PI?For the General Performance Index, the scores for every distance are decreased at the same rate.
- Does the ITRA’s performance index mix results of short and long-distance races? The general Performance Index uses the weighted mean of the 5 best results, regardless of distance, for each runner over the previous 36 months.
- What about results obtained in races that don’t exactly match the distance category? For calculation purposes and because the exact distance of a Trail race usually differs from the distances that are announced due to measurement inconsistencies (different GPS methodologies etc.) we’ve allowed for a wide enough distance…
- What are the distance intervals for each race category? The distance categories are defined by the number of kilometres in the race.
- I recently completed a race, but my general performance index has not changed.New race scores appear in your runner account automatically.
- My general performance index doesn’t use my top 5 scores?Your PI is made up of your top 5 results which are given a time weighted coefficient, therefore it is not always possible to determine from your scores which results are used for the General PI calculation. For example, a new PI score of…
- Is the performance index the same for women and men?An identical calculation is applied for men and for women. It is therefore possible to directly the compare the performances of men with those of women, just as you would compare finish times in our sports.
- How do I improve my performance index? The Performance Index is based on your results, race score obtained. So as your performance level increases so will your ITRA scores, which will in turn increase your Performance Index.
- Does a DNF impact my performance index?Your Performance Index is not impacted by a DNF.
- How do I compare my performance index to others and what are the different levels of performance? The table below shows how to interpret performance indexes by category and gender, so that it is possible to define different categories of trail runners ranging from novice to the top elite.By using this table, a runner will be able to…
- I had a very bad race, my time was very slow, or I did not finish (DNF), can you remove this score from my profil, so it doesn't decrease my performance index?A runner’s performance index will not be affected by a slow race or a DNF!
- Why is the ''general'' index often better than an index by category? The general index is calculated on the weighted average of the 5 best results in a mix of different distance categories, while the category index is calculated using the best results within an individual category.
Results
- Race Score and Performance Index: vocabularyRace Score - An "Race Score” is given to each runner for every race they complete. Each person’s runner file profile consists of many different scores, corresponding to each race they have completed.
- How is my score for each race calculated? The ITRA score is calculated based on a runner’s finish time VS the specific characteristics of the race he has participated in.
- Does running the same time on an identical course from one year to another result in the same score? Our algorithm estimates a runner's performance, rated on a scale from 0 to 1000, based on several factors:
- Does the score for a race change over time? No, the score for a single race does not change over time*
- Is a score calculated for each race?A score is calculated for all races in our calendar upon the receipt of complete and correct results files from the event organizer as well as accurate race data (distance - vertical gain / loss).Exceptions: At the moment, no score is…
- I saw that a runner who ran on a similar course (distance + elevation) received a different score - why is this? Our years of race analysis tells us that there is no such thing as a similar course.
